10 Fireflies

He closed his eyes, fell into bed
Darkness spinning in his head
Slept through all the light of day
But keeps a smile on his face

He started thinking about the stories
His Dad told when he was much younger
Back in Jersey life was easy
Catching fireflies
Those days seem so far away tonight

And he’s so mad about the war
And all the lies we’re fighting for
Dan got shipped out in July
And he prays at night for him to be alright

He falls in love with passing faces
He knows he’ll never know at all
And he paints pictures in black notebooks
Just to let things go
Leaves here go green then brown and gone

Don’t think so much
They forced us to think outside the box
Now we can’t see the obvious at all
All the sleepless nights
Wondering why the world goes ’round
And am I even really here at all
Who cares if I’m even here at all

Started thinking about the stories
His Dad told when he was much younger
Back in Jersey life was easy
Catching fireflies
Those days seem so far away tonight
